Well, we all know that I think our kid is great. So now let me share with you something he has done that makes it even more evident. (First let me tell you that I am a shopaholic and a Mom who spoils - not that his Dad does not spoil too so there is an overabundance of "things" at our house)
On Sunday evening, Hayden went in one of the spare bedrooms and started looking at the boxes I have gathered to take to the Little Rock Compassion Center. I have several in there waiting for a good time to load the van and then deliver. The Compassion Center is one of my favorite places to donate items for the homeless and others. I have asked Hayden many times to help me with giving things to children who do not have things like he does. He HAS tried. It is just so hard to let go of those favorite toys. He has given boxes of things but you know the kind...action figures missing limbs, McDonald happy meal giveaways, and other items like that. Well last night, he asked me if we could start putting stuff together from his room for charity.... wow. Of course we can! Then he started coming by the computer where I was and saying "Mom is this a useful item?" "Is this useful for someone?" "This toy is useful isn't it, Momma?" Now, what 7 year old would not think a Ninja Turtle mask was useful, or a Teen Titan walkie talkie, or a Power Ranger figure? It was just precious to see him being so thoughtful about what might be useful and important to others.
He even walked through with his first rocking horse. Now, this was a First Birthday present and well.... although he was thinking with his heart for others, I was thinking with mine. I stopped him and he said but Momma it is useful. I said yes Hayden it is but one day you might want to give it your children since it was a first birthday present. What a thought, Hayden with kids. But he said "Oh okay Momma that would be special!"
To make this even more special, he asked me last night if he could go with me to take the boxes to the Compassion Center. I would like nothing more than to take him so he can see a place where he is helping others and meet some of the people who work there and are always so thankful for what one donates.
And this morning it was still on his mind. Harold asked him if he wanted to go practice hitting this afternoon ('cause it was a little more than bad on Saturday) and he said yes he did but only for a little while because he needed to get some things gathered for charity! The Lord is really working through this child. All glory goes to Him for doing so!
(I'll post pictures later of the boxes we have gathered to take)
